OUR PROJECTS
murals
Following a marketing conference fireside chat with DGC’s publisher about producing comic books for video game IP, Dead Good Comics was approached by Dlala Studios.
Murals is an original action-adventure game from the UK development studio behind Battletoads and Disney Illusion Island, set in twisted fairy tale worlds - “these are not the tales you were told”.
As well as mini-strips introducing unique takes on Rumpelstiltskin and Hansel and Gretel, the final comic book package included concept artwork from the game and an interview with the developers.
An exclusive print run of the comic book was created as a promotional gift for media and content creators attending behind-closed-doors previews during gamescom.
afterworld: the report
Following our collaboration on Crusader Kings III, Paradox Interactive approached Dead Good Comics about developing a comic book based on its first original setting in over a decade.
Afterworld is a grand strategy game set in an original post-apocalyptic North America, featuring a deep, story-rich world. With a short production window, the strip was written by a member of the game’s narrative team, with Dead Good assembling the wider creative team.
The story offers a window into the kind of encounters that the player may experience during the game, starring an NPC who can be discovered after the events of the comic book.
The game was announced during Opening Night Live at gamescom, with the comic book being immediately made available digitally as a marketing mailing list sign up initiative.
hell is us: beyond the trees
NACON and Rogue Factor had been developing its ground-breaking action RPG Hell is Us for a number of years, and were looking for a unique way to introduce the world to consumers.
Collaborating with Dead Good Comics allowed them to produce a high quality prequel comic strip that led into the events of the video game. The DGC team worked closely with the game’s developers to ensure it remained true to the source material.
The comic book was made available as a digital download on the game’s Steam page, as well as a limited run distributed to press and influencers during gamescom.
A second print run with a variant cover by Vincenzo Riccardi was available at MCM London Comic Con as a free gift to those attending a panel about the game with creative director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête and voice actor Elias Toufexis.
crusader kings iii: many roads to power
Paradox Interactive was looking for a new and exciting way to introduce fans to its epic Roads to Power expansion for the critically acclaimed Crusader Kings III historical strategy game.
Dead Good Comics worked alongside Paradox to develop a short origin story that focused on one of the new historical characters within the expansion - Basil I, “The Macedonian”.
The comic was hosted digitally on the official Crusader Kings website, with a strictly limited print run of physical copies provided to influencers and members of the Crusader Kings gaming community who attended a private event in Sweden.
octobriana and the underground
Dead Good created a 50th anniversary special of all original comic book material featuring the cult 1970s underground comic book character Octobriana.
This book, Octobriana With Love, was crowdfunded through Kickstarter, as well as distributed to the specialist comic book retailer network.
A follow up two issue series, Octobriana and the Underground: Full Tilt Boogie, was produced and distributed direct to market.
Leading a rag-tag group of freedom fighters, Octobriana travels the dimensional highways in her Wonder Machine, disrupting authoritarian regimes, overturning tyrants…
...and gate-crashing the best parties! Come with her if you want a revolution!
